    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

     In accordance with the mission and values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will develop, teach and maintain courses in the English department. Primary teaching assignments will be in first-year composition, with potential opportunities to teach literature classes. Additional responsibilities include participating in professional development activities and serving as needed on committees within the department, division and college. This position will be based at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus.  Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, hybrid and/or blended formats during days and evenings.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

     

    1. Master’s degree in English or related discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in English required, with preference for 9 graduate hours in rhetoric and/or composition and/or literature.
    2. Two years of successful higher education teaching experience, particularly at a community college, is preferred.
    3. Experience teaching diverse populations, including 1st generation college students, academic, economic, ethnic, racial, cultural, and religious diversity, students of varying gender identities and sexual orientations, and students with disabilities is preferred.
    4. Experience in outcomes assessment is preferred.
    5. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Board of Trustees for any assigned course.

    STARTING PAY AND HOURS:

     This is a 9-month teaching position (5/5 load) with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule.  For example, the minimum 2023-2024 starting salary at Step 1 on the Master’s degree column is $51,976. The actual starting salary is determined by educational attainment level and experience. Voluntary overload and summer teaching assignments may also be available which may increase the annual compensation. The college offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.
