Highway Engineer

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Responsible for various phases of Highway construction projects including project design, consultation with contractors and property owners, and being present at job sites to monitor and supervise construction activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. supervises and monitors construction projects in progress to ensure accuracy
2. performs layout activities on assigned construction projects including bridges, roads and culverts
3. fulfills a public relations function by meeting with property owners to explain construction projects being undertaken adjacent to their property
4. performs various design activities including surveying, calculating and documenting
5. prepares weekly project reports, monthly pay estimates and other reports as required
6. coordinates and consults with contractors on assigned construction projects
7. performs construction inspections
8. performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
9. Madison County, IL residency requirements must be met within 6 months of hire

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, 2 years related experience, and a valid driver's license are required.
