    Job Summary:  Remains with the patient at all times, monitors activities and provides a safe environment.    Performs various housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a clean environment. Performance expectations are defined in the competency evaluation.

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Remain with the patient and oversee all activity at all times.
    2. Read, talk with, keep patient calm and in bed or chair.
    3. Assures the safety and comfort of the patient
    4. Informs the nurse of sudden changes in the patient condition
    5. Notifies nurse at the station when reporting on and off duty
    6. Discusses coverage for meals/breaks with the nurse
    7. Sitter will not feed, walk, lift or reposition patients
    8. Treats patient and their belongings with dignity and respect
    9. Maintains confidentiality.
    10. Maintains a neat environment
    11. Maintains a  safe environment
    12. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical, and religious diversity.
    13. Adheres to standard precautions and infection control standards.

     

    Qualifications

    Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

     

                    Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent

     

    Experience Requirements:  Prior medical or educational experience preferred, but not mandatory.

                   

     

     

    Working Conditions:

     

    Exposure Category III:  Category I talks (tasks that involve exposure to body fluids, or tissue) are not a condition of employment.  The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids).  Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of the employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
