BREAST SONOGRAPHER/MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST - MAMMOGRAPHY

JOB SUMMARY: 

To apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis in accordance with policy and procedure, practicing radiation safety methods at all time.  To select appropriate technical factors limiting the need for re-exposure and in accordance with equipment operating guidelines.

To apply patient care, communicating the procedure performed, lessening apprehension and in accordance with the hospital’s Patent’s Rights policies.  Mammography skills to include: the ability to perform screening, diagnostic, coned down spot compression, magnification, implant displaced and specimen views, the ability to modify care according to age, and the ability to assist the physician with cyst aspirations, needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsies.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Performs and documents patient and family education activities including assessing, performing and documenting
2. Provides age specific care for adult and geriatric population.
3. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity

Mammography:

1. Positions patient properly to visualize optimum breast tissue
2. Accurately identifies images and includes patient history
3. Proficiently operates Mammography and DEXA equipment
4. Invasive breast procedures such as biopsies, stereotactic, localizations(wire/magseeds)
5. Understands and performs QC tests if assigned by the supervisor
6. Follows protocol for notifying patients of mammography results
7. Records the receipt and return of all outside mammography images to original facility
8. Assists physicians, and other technologists with procedures
9. Maintains compliance with Patient Safety Goals
10. Is in compliance with all radiation safety standards
11. Documents all interventions and completes accurately and in a timely manner all exam information

Ultrasound:

1. Performs diagnostic breast ultrasound imaging 
2. US breast procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, localizations(wire/magseeds)
3. Ensure appropriate consent forms are signed by the patient or responsible party for invasive breast procedures
4. Review the medical record for patient history acquiring pertinent clinical information
5. Proficiently operate all functions of US equipment
6. Select the proper transducer(s) for examination(s) being performed
7. Adjust Doppler/color Doppler controls to optimize display of data
8. Documenting and reviewing specimens
9. Tracking pathology results and providing results to the radiologist

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Formal radiologic technology training in AMA approved school.

Must be ARRT registered and IDNS licensed unrestricted.

Must be ARRT registered in Mammography.

R.D.M.S certified or registry eligible

Breast Sonography Certified or eligible
