Summary: The DSP provides daily living support to individuals with developmental disabilities helping them gain and maintain independence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist residents with all aspects of home living, including but not limited to: cooking, cleaning, personal development, taking medications, recreational activities.
- Ensure resident medication needs are met by monitoring and documenting medication regimen. Bring any health issues to supervisor's attention.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents and families and maintain positive relationships and lines of communication.
- Assists residents with making monetary purchases/exchanges.
- Works with residents in the community in order to assist residents in utilizing resources and developing natural supports.
- Provide training and guidance to residents to support reaching individual goals
- Provide direct personal care or oversight as needed.

Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Experience working in a residential setting with individuals with DD is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple instructions, short correspondence, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and memos.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write notes that conform to the prescribed style and format.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10's and 100's.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
- Ability to compute percentages.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office and perform data entry into the database.

- The employee is occasionally required to lift between 11 lbs and 50 lbs to assist clients with ambulation and transferring if needed.

Must have vehicle, licensed to drive and auto insurance to transport clients. Must be able to pass DPS training.
