    Accounts Receivable Specialist Position Summary

    • Position Summary: The Accounts Receivable Specialist effectively interacts with all levels of the finance, admissions, medical records, and clinical departments.  This position requires the skills to work and cultivate teamwork on various tasks and projects.  Strong analytical, time management, organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills are essential to ensure timely claim payment.  Must have working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance plans.
    • Pay: $23.47 Hourly. Full-Time Non-Exempt Position, 40 Hours Weekly/80 Hours Bi-Weekly
    • Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:30 AM- 5:00 PM 
    • Location: Will work at the Hospice of Southern Illinois Administration Office located at 305 South Illinois Street, Belleville, IL 62220. This is not a remote position.

    Position Requirements
     
    A.) Education
    1. Graduate of an accredited high school.  
    2. Associate Degree from an accredited college preferred.
     
    B.) Experience
    1. Three (3) years accounts receivable experience preferred.
    2. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and medical insurance billing experience.

    C.) Other Qualifications
    1. Proven working experience with a strong emphasis on Medicare and Medicaid.
    2. Ability to calculate, post and manage outstanding receivables.
    3. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
    4. Able to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
    5. Ability to accurately record and transmit detailed information.
    6. Ability to interpret and comply with claim submission requirements.
    7. Works well in an environment with firm deadlines.
    8. Capable of making timely, independent decisions.
    •  Physical Requirements: Performs repetitive tasks. Does sedentary work: prolonged periods of sitting.  Manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination).  Hears alarms and telephone. Requires physical flexibility of bending at knee and stooping to file records occasionally.  This position requires clarity of vision >20 inches and <20 feet. 
    • Working Conditions: The Accounts Receivable Specialist spends approximately 100% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposure to excessive humidity and noise. 
     
    Essential Functions of the Accounts Receivable Specialist Position:
    1. Demonstrates understanding of patient billing process in Suncoast and Great Plains, including the reconciliation process.
    2. Proves ability to file claims electronically and manually based on financial class submission requirements in a timely manner.
    3. Exhibits ability to understand and post payments/adjustments timely and accurately to patient accounts.
    4. Demonstrates competency in completing timely and accurate general ledger journal entries.
    5. Effectively manages all aspects related to timely filing of claims, including correcting claim errors and resubmissions.
    6. Maintains constant working knowledge related to Medicare and Medicaid programs and regulations.
    7. Assist with ongoing Accounts Receivable review process, including identification and resolution of specific claim issues.  Diligent follow-up with insurance companies that can lead to positive outcomes for Hospice of Southern Illinois.
    8. Displays understanding of the authorization processes for all payor sources.
    9. Comprehends the Nursing Home Medicaid Room and Board billing process including identification and rectifying of potential problematic claims
    10. Knowledge of Medicare and Direct Pay billing process, including the billing of deductibles and co-pays. This process may require interaction with patients and/or families.
    11. Ability to enter and manage claims in DDE (Direct Data Entry), Medi (Illinois Medicaid), Medicaid HMO portals, and Claims Management Pro.
    12. Demonstrates vast understanding of benefit periods and certification/recertification processes, including the monitoring and submission of re-certifications, when appropriate.
    13. Effectively displays competency to create all Medicare Notice of Elections (81As) and terminations (81Bs) in Suncoast Solutions and CMS Direct Data Entry System and/or submission of Medicaid Notices of Elections (1592’s) and terminations (1594’s) to Illinois Medicaid and/or Medicaid HMO’s.
    14. Demonstrates the ability to execute basic accounting principles accurately.
    15. Executes understanding of telephone system and call/message forwarding protocol.
    16. Problem-solving - demonstrates the ability to identify, design, and contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches that will improve work processes and systems.  Identifies an issue and proposes a solution to the issue.
    17.  Accuracy - detail oriented with ability to oversee and verify work.
    18. Teamwork - demonstrates the ability to work co-operatively with others in a team environment to establish, build, and maintain positive work relationships and to ensure deadlines, goals, and objectives are met.
    19. Planning and Organizing - uses and develops systems to organize and keep track of information.  Sets priorities with an appropriate sense of what is most important and plans with an appropriate and realistic sense of the time demand involved.
    20. Communicate - Demonstrates a high level of communication skills and can clearly articulate thoughts and ideas.
    21.  Reliability - follows through on all projects, goals, and aspects of one’s job timely and accurately.

    23. Accurately documents timesheet.
    24. Appropriately manages Paid Time Off.  Submits online request for time off in a timely manner.
